This week, 11/3/25, we meditated with crow energy (link below, if you would like to experiment with it yourself).
Experiences
-Crow tells me to take two drops of crow energy and two drops of sequoia essence before bed to help with sleep. Both Sequoia and Crow say I need to have a little faith to go to sleep, faith that it’ll be okay. The night I take it, I feel Crow assessing and explaining. When you go to sleep at night, you are on a branch near the trunk with birds on either side. Crow says I need another crow in the bed, lol and goes off. Crow sounds perfunctory if not abrasive, but doesn’t feel unkind. Crow also tells me I am having more trouble with my left eye.
-Physical stuff: Crow pointing out tension between their eyes–could be useful for this. Their vision–they see the sides (like horses), when they want to see the ground they have to rotate their head to get a really good look. Focus on their beak–YouTube videos on friend crows liking beak stroking.
-The voice/their voices/messages sound noisy/cacophany. Ah! I realize this is how they do sound! Irl, not just my head.
-”Scavengers”: They talk about how much good stuff they are finding all the time. “A berry as big as my eye, do you think that is a good berry? I find those all the time!” This kind of feels like contentment in a rich life, like “Stop having such a human perspective! We are eating the riches of nature on the regular.” Or “You say carrion-eater, but one person’s trash is another’s treasure.”
-A fox is trotting along the ground in a flatland with trees. Everywhere he walk there was wild flowers; tall grass would sprout behind him. He came to a tree and ran up. There were flowers and grass sprouting up along the way. Once he got to the top, he howled at the sky and turned into a wolf, continuing to howl. Baby foxes came up the tree, once he saw them he turned back into a fox. They needed to be fed. At this point it turned into a snowy scene. He dismounted from the tree. He found were a green meadow met the the snow. At that spot the wolf met him and tossed him a dead rabbit. The fox fed it to his babies–they started ripping it apart. Their mouths were bloody and they turned into savages.
-Later the wolf turned rabid. He found the path between light and dark. He chose the dark path. Bad darkness.
-I saw a glass dome with a view of the night sky. Wildlife was growing inside, energized by the moon.
-The crows remind me that I wanted to offer them eggs. They like hardboiled eggs with the shell on. They want them tomorrow. They also like how I planted berries in the yard. That is an offering too. If they get the eggs they will harass people for me. They consider me a friend, because I buried one of their own, but still I should come through on the eggs.
-It is very mournful when one of them dies. They way you must feel to fall from the tree. There is heaviness in thinking of this.
-They keep their childrearing hidden.
-I feel black wings on me. Full black, lots of shiny black feathers.
-When they fly/float their heart is peaceful. This is resting. They do lots of work on the ground.
Integration
The meditation brought up many themes. The quality of the crow came through with they loud and rough communication style. They seemed tuned into interests and supportive (offering to harass). Crows have a reputation of giving back to humans that are kind and remembering (even through generations) those that go against them. The sense of gratitute was an interesting aspect. Foxes and crows are both scavengers who have adapted well to living among humans. They are also both known to be devoted when caring for the young--in both species, parents, siblings, and other community members help care for the young. The idea of flying away (or going to the top of the tree, as the best a fox can do) but coming back to care for the youth makes sense to me. Devoted, but loving flight. The crows seem well-adjusted in a certain way, like they are pretty pleased with themselves and get justice for their own. They have a reputation as both being "darkness" in having pecked at their own shadow until they became it and being associated with spiritual law. Not uncommonly human law protects the wrong people. A person may be cast as the outlaw, but are victims only of not being mainstream. Spiritual law is about what is true, not just surface evaluations, assumptions, and biases--more like karma. It is interesting that the wolf chose the dark path. Crows are sometimes seen as dirty, low-level creatures. Corvids are highly intelligent, sensitive, thoughtful, and protective. They appear to offer better care for their children than humans, since they do the "it takes a village model", and do not appear to have child abuse and neglect that humans have. They are very protective of their own, rather than usurious.
With all the night sky and blackness, it dawned on me that this is really helpful for evading some nighttime risks: owls and raccoons. Being black is perfect camophlage.
A follow-up to the crow/sequoia essence for sleep: "This seems to be helping with nighttime waking. I still woke up, but I went back to sleep instead of being wide awake for an hour or so. I am still having trouble falling asleep."
There is more research to be done to understand how crow energy could be supportive; however possible ideas include:
•contentment/sense of abundance
•community interdependence that allows parents to "fly"
•tension between eyes, vision therapy support
•tuning into spiritual law, learning to live by your own rules to avoid belittlement
Invitation
Have you had experiences with crows in waking or dreamtime or with the energy? I will post the Crow Energy soon, so check back in a few days if you would like to try it. If you do I hope you will share your observations in the comments.
