Join me, Lily Arati Michaud, for Plant Meditation Club and learn about herbs intuitively through meditation, through co-meditators, and through historical information and contemporary research. Join me from anywhere on Zoom, two Mondays a month. Meeting times the 1st and 3rd Mondays 630pm PST from December, 2024 through March, 2025. Starting Monday, 12/2/24. If you miss a meeting I hope you will meditate at home with the herb, and post your experience on the blog post associated with the missed meeting date. Everyone is encouraged to share their experiences in the group and on the blog.

      What's Included:

Each month* you will receive two herbs to meditate on, including:

      • One herb from traditional Western herbalism (using herbs from European and North American herbalism)

      • One herb from Traditional Chinese Medicine (using Classical Chinese medicine herbs primarily from the Divine Farmer's Materia Medica, and other classic texts)

      • The herbs will be labeled with the Zoom or reveal date, not the herb's name. Meditating without knowing the identity helps you experience the herb without bias. It also helps you connect with and recognize your intuition.

      • If you have health concerns and are worried about meditating with an unknown herbs, please contact me and we can discuss the herb we are working on. You can also submit concerns to me before the class starts, so I know what to watch out for, and can communicate with you personally.

      Instructions:

We will meet via zoom. We will individually prepare the tea, meditate, and discuss our meditation experience. The first week we will go over all the basics and I can answer any questions. We learn from our own experiences as well as those of other group members. I will share traditional uses of the herb, plus relevant information on preparation and harvesting. If others have had experiences with the herb they are invited to share as well.

If you have time, I recommend a daily silent meditation practice for personal development. It will also help you better understand who you are, so that when you interact with plants, people, or anything else, you will more easily recognize what thoughts and feelings are native to you versus coming from outside.

I summarize plant meditation group experiences into blog posts, so if you miss a week you can take the herb on your own, share your experience in the post comments and read about it!

      My Goals:

In Western herbalism learning through experience and sharing personal experience is a vital part of the path and community. Traditional Western herbalism is not as systemitized and relies heavily on shared wisdom. Chinese herbalism is so systemitized, and based on historical use, that it does not invite much learning from the herbs. By examining herbs of both parts of the world we will learn and synthesize information about historical use and present day research. Your eyes will be opened to the differences and commonalities between related herbs used in the East and West. Ecology is an important factor in herbalism and will be discussed in this course. Learning about new herbs allows us to practice herbalism with more respect for the plants. We can intelligently choose herbs that are abundant, or over-abundant in nature instead of turning to endangered or at risk species. I look forward to sharing space with you via zoom and deepening our understanding of plant medicines together.

      About me, Lily:

I first started receiving communication from plants while studying for my master's degree in nursing. The plants would let me know their strengths or I would feel that they had so much more to offer than the few words listed by them in the herb shop. I started reading about herbs whenever I could. I decided to begin my education through plant meditation and worked with Scott Kloos who was leading a plant meditation group. I appreciated this approach and learned a lot both directly from the herbs, from Scott, and from the other participants. Even today I remember those insight experiences. They add a lot to my work as an herbalist. Images from the plant can speak volumes! I then studied with Matthew Wood for years and continue to work with him. I greatly appreciate his desire to learn from every source, including student experiences, to deepen the collective knowledge of herbalism. His Book of Herbal Wisdom remains my favorite.
