Arati Ursus is the founder and herbalist behind Brown Bear Herbs. She arrived at herbalism through dreaming. She spent many years working through lucid dreaming and shifting the waking time. What was most important to her was the aha-moment when some seemingly fixed part of her life changed. She finds herbs to be a very easy access point to that experience. For example, many health problems she had been told were uncurable by medical doctors, were remedied with relative ease by herbs.

Tobacco smoking is said to be one of the hardest addictions to break. With our smoking blends that process is often said to be easy. Life is not fixed. With the right supports many things naturally can be released for better physical, emotional, and/or spiritual health.

The organic herbal smoking blends we make are intended to satisfy the underlying reasons why people smoke. They are non-addictive so it is possible to smoke them while releasing your tobacco addiction. We make other herbal products that are also transformative, including dream teas.

Arati has 15+ years of experience offering plant medicine and herbal knowledge. She holds a BA from Smith College and received a Master of Nursing and Healthcare Practice degree from the University of Iowa and practiced as an RN for 10 years in the fields of non-vascular neurology and vascular access. This gave her a broad understanding of the human body and western medicine which is very helpful to be a conscientious herbalist.

In addition to the business Arati works on a variety of projects to support human rights for women and children through food, herbs, and access to education and legal support*. She has received international recognition for her community work.

She sends big Thank You's to her meditation teacher: Shri Anandi Ma; Matthew Wood, her favorite herbalist ever; Scott Kloos for introducing her to plant meditation; Deborah Frances, ND, Susun Weed, Rosemary Gladstar, Juliette de Bairacli Levy, many other amazing herbalists...and in general to the paths of Kundalini Maha yoga and Kundalini yoga.
