Astro Update: A Mystical & Practical New Moon

Astro Update: A Mystical & Practical New Moon

The new moon in Virgo happens on the 14th of September at 6:40 pm PST, and 9:40 pm ET.

This is a pretty amazing new moon! The moon and sun in Virgo will be in a grand trine with Uranus and Pluto and opposite Neptune in Pisces. This formation is a kite and allows for relatively easy resolution of the opposing energies of Pisces and Virgo, which form the astrological axis of service. Pisces is a sign of selfless, indiscriminate compassion. Virgo is detail-oriented, and analytical. It typically provides service through the "labors of love" tending to the mundane details of everyday life, like making soup for a sick loved one. While the signs express it differently, they both focus on giving selflessly.

New moons are great for setting new intentions. This one is particularly good for changing dynamics in the material world, such as home, finances, daily tasks, and business. Uranus brings change to our daily routine in Taurus. Pluto is the planet of transformation. Pluto in Capricorn reveals and transforms the dominating and restrictive quality of hierarchical social structures and traditional ways of living. Combined with the mutable, sharp mental energy of the new moon in Virgo, we can act to eliminate elements of our daily world that feel stale or stifle growth. Neptune forms the opposition in the kite formation. The impetus for change is likely to be a desire to have a greater sense of surrender, creativity, or spiritual connection. Take a look at what needs to change to feel more of this magical side of life...set an intention there. Big shifts in this direction are possible with relative ease.

Also of note during the waxing moon weeks:

Mercury in Virgo stations direct on the 16th. This is exciting for everyone who is tired of Mercury retrograde problems. It stations when the moon is conjunct Mars in Libra. When a planet is stationing its archetype can be much more dramatic. Emotions could be running high, and communication could be more cutting than usual. Use caution, as Libra is the sign of direct confrontation, and Mars adds heat.

By the 28th, Venus in Leo will be square to Uranus in Taurus. This can bring sudden romantic involvements. There may also be an impulse to disrupt routine relationships in favor of excitement, change, and wanting to be more appreciated (Leo).
